On the 22nd of July, 2021, Spread Group suffered a serious data breach.

The passwords, payment details and personal information of their users was exposed, and stolen by attackers. These include PayPal information, street addresses and even bank account details.

The financial damage of this stolen data to users can be devastating. Breaches like this are the digital equivalent of a stranger picking up your lost wallet off the street.

Spread Group, is the umbrella brand for five internationally active e-commerce platforms. They have had to warn their customers, specifically those of Spreadshop, Spreadshirt and TeamShirts that their company servers were hacked and data was stolen.

Spread Group has urged affected users to change their account passwords. We also suggest that if you have been impacted by this breach, or by any other data breach you consider doing the following:

- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all your online accounts. It takes a few extra seconds to sign in for a whole new layer of protection.

- Use a password manager to store passwords securely and create unique, strong ones in the first place. Good password managers provide information when passwords have been compromised and are for sale on the Dark Web.

- Set up identity theft protection with a financial institution of your choice.
