Ofcom estimates nearly 45 million people received a suspicious call or message over the summer.

Text scams are the most common, with three-quarters of 16-34 year olds targeted. Whilst sixty per cent of over-75s received a suspicious call to a landline.

Familiarise yourself with Ofcom’s advice on what to do if you receive a suspicious text or call. Be aware that the headline advice is:

  • Forward suspicious texts to 7726 (the numbers that spell “spam” on your phone).
  • Report scam call to Action Fraud, 0300 123 2040.
