If you use WhatsApp to send and receive messages you will likely know how handy it is to receive a "ping", or some other audio alert, to draw your attention to an incoming message. After all, messaging feels like it needs instant attention.
However, sometimes a "ping" for every message in a group with many members becomes way too much. You'll know exactly what I mean if you have school-aged kids and joined a parental year group.
Here's how to turn off the audio alert for a given group in WhatsApp:
- Navigate to the group.
- At the top of the screen, tap on the group name.
- From the Group Info window scroll to the "Mute" section. Tap on it to select the length of time you want the mute to last.
- That choice will now be reflected in the Group Info screen.
- Navigate back to the group chat history and then back again to your list of groups, and the group you just edited should have the mute symbol next to it.
